I joined Meath Fitness at the ripe age of 47, mainly to vary my training and meet new people. I had been training for the previous 7 years, just for running, and assumed Personal Best’s were a thing of the past. I turned up to a boggy Skryne GFC on a cold damp October evening in 2012 and duly considered not leaving the car and going home!

However seeing the session being set out by the instructor and the variety of people ready to train I thought to myself “get out and go for it!” The session was fantastic and I was on a high afterwards. The members and instructors were very welcoming and helpful all the way through. I signed up immediately for 7 weeks and have been attending ever since.

I have recorded two Personal Best’s so far this year, 2013, for 8k and half marathon distance and completed Gael Force West. With Meath Fitness I have made a lot of new friends, improved my overall fitness, recorded running times I thought were not possible, climbed mountains, faced and completed challenges I thought I would never achieve….and thanks to MF I know I am not finished yet. So get out and go for it!

I am on my second 7 week session. I joined as I had been getting no exercise with 2 small babies. I now have 2 nights a week that are my time, with no-one shouting at me and looking for something, well that’s not entirely true; some of the instructors give the odd holler of encouragement when I’m not giving it everything!

But it is so much more than that, it’s good social interaction with others, it’s out in the fresh air, it’s time to clear your head…. and then there are the health benefits; more energy; better concentration and immediate endorphins following the class.

I definitely recommend joining for Pat’s half-time juice if not all the other benefits!

I joined Meath Fitness 3 years ago and I haven’t looked back since. I joined because I was a bit of a fitness class junkie and was looking for something that would actually help to shift a few of the excess pounds, get me fit, and maybe I’d meet a few people too. I never thought that I would actually find exactly what I was looking for though!
The first few classes were really tough. I felt that everyone around me was super fit and I was lagging behind.  Everyone was really nice though and it wasn’t long until I got to know some of the regulars and realised that many of them were in the same boat as I was. I also discovered that the super fit ones also had some interesting stories about their own roads to fitness and their stories really motivated and encouraged me.

You know heading out in the evening that there will be running, a bit of banter, a few press-ups and probably some of the dreaded burpees, but you’ve no idea what type of package it will come in! This is why it works for me, I hate repetition! All the other fitness classes I did became monotonous very quickly. I also know that I will be challenged every evening and that it will have been worth dragging my ass off the couch after a long day at work. The other essential element is the craic, I never thought when I signed up 3 years ago that I would meet so many new people and make so many friends.

I’ve had loads of milestones since joining Meath Fitness; running the 2k block where I live, 5k races, 10k races and a couple of duathlons. The icing on the cake had to be when I finally did Gaelforce West this year after a few years on the sidelines. I was a bit hesitant (actually terrified) but eventually decided to sign up when I couldn’t take any more of the slagging. I still can’t believe that I managed to complete the 67k course and more importantly, enjoy it! It’s all thanks to the Meath Fitness training, the instructors and the members who often had more faith in me than I had in myself! The only downfall is that I’m now addicted and can’t wait to sign up for my next adventure race! Thanks Meath Fitness!

I used to go to the gym but fell out of the habit and found it very difficult to get off the couch in the evenings especially after a long day at work. I missed being fit and wanted to lose a few pounds that I’d put on and prevent myself from getting further out of shape.

One of the best aspects of Meath Fitness is the teamwork approach, each session feels like the whole group is in it together and encourages each individual during the sessions and the instructors are also really encouraging and motivating providing enjoyable and stimulating training sessions.  No two sessions have been the same since I started and each individual can push themselves as hard as they want to. The sessions are also quite fun, initially I found them tough having been sedentary for so long but I felt my fitness improved after about 2 weeks and my recovery time was much quicker. I was able to run my first 5k road race ever after just 4 weeks which I felt was a great personal achievement.

I feel that I’m in better shape now, have much more energy and have an overall sense of well being after just a few weeks of training and find I’m looking forward to the next session. I don’t think I’ll be returning to every evening spent on the couch any time soon!

I joined Meath Fitness last year (September 2012) after the birth of my 3rd child. I wanted to lose weight, get fit and tone up. Previously, I had done a small bit of running but the fitness I gained from running alone was nothing compared to the fitness I achieved through attending Meath Fitness sessions. I attend 2 mid-week night sessions and a Saturday morning session. Each session is a combination of fast moving circuit training and running, every time you go it’s completely different as there is such a great mix of instructors. I quickly became addicted, loving the feeling of how challenged I felt during each tough session and the sense of achievement I would feel in the car on my way home when it was all over.

I am now at a level where I am participating in events and taking part in challenges that I never ever dreamed of being involved in. I have taken part in a duathlon series, 5k and 10k runs and most recently, my proudest sporting achievement to date Gael Force West in August 2013. This event consisted of 67k of running, kayaking, cycling and climbing Croagh Patrick.  So, in the space of just less than 1 year of being part of Meath Fitness, I have gone from being able to cover 0k to 67k. It took a lot of commitment and training on my part but I simply would not have been able to do it without the support, encouragement, camaraderie from all the members and instructors at Meath Fitness.

Now, I have a new lease of life, I am the same weight I was when I got married 9 years ago, I have a lot more energy now which enables me to balance work / family life more effectively. As well as the added health benefits Meath Fitness has given me; I have also met some great people, some of whom I know will be life long friends.
